Meet Keagan: G.M. Mechanical’s Employee of the Month
At G.M. Mechanical, we value more than just skills and experience—we celebrate the people who make our company extraordinary. This month, we’re thrilled to shine the spotlight on Keagan, a driven and talented sheet metal apprentice who exemplifies what it means to work hard, learn constantly, and bring a positive attitude to the workplace. Keagan’s story is one of growth, community, and ambition, and it’s no surprise that he’s been chosen as our Employee of the Month.
A Home in High River
High River has been Keagan’s home for the past 13 years, and his connection to this vibrant community runs deep. It’s not just where he lives; it’s where he’s built a life surrounded by people he respects and a company he’s proud to work for.
“Having been in High River for a bit, GM has a good reputation in the Foothills,” Keagan said. That reputation, combined with the company’s commitment to fostering growth and teamwork, made it an easy decision for him to join the team.
For Keagan, High River isn’t just a town—it’s where his journey as a tradesman is taking shape. He takes pride in contributing to the community through his work and in representing a company that shares his values of integrity and excellence.
Keagan’s Role as a Sheet Metal Apprentice
As a sheet metal apprentice with three years of experience, Keagan has already made a strong impression. He approaches each task with enthusiasm and an eagerness to learn, which are qualities that set him apart. We asked him what his favourite part of the job is, and “learning new skills” was on his list!.
This passion for growth is evident in the way he tackles every challenge with determination and creativity. Keagan’s favourite tool? His trusty grinder. But it’s not just the tools that excite him—it’s the opportunity to innovate and create.
Building things around the shop is one of his favourite tasks, and it’s clear that he takes pride in the results of his hard work. Whether it’s crafting intricate pieces or solving complex problems, Keagan thrives in the hands-on environment that G.M. Mechanical offers.
The G.M. Mechanical Difference
What sets G.M. Mechanical apart for Keagan is the people. “The people here are friendly and willing to teach new skills,” he explained. This culture of mentorship and collaboration has been a significant factor in his growth as a tradesman.
It’s not just about getting the job done—it’s about learning from each other, sharing knowledge, and building a supportive workplace. Keagan also appreciates the company’s strong reputation in the Foothills region.
Ambitions for the Future
Keagan’s career aspirations are as ambitious as they are inspiring. While he’s currently focused on completing his ticket in sheet metal, he’s already planning his next move: earning another trade ticket. This drive to expand his skills and take on new challenges speaks to his commitment to personal and professional growth.
It’s clear that Keagan views his career as a journey, not a destination. He’s not content to settle; he’s always looking ahead, setting goals, and working hard to achieve them. This forward-thinking mindset is a testament to his dedication and determination.
A Day in the Life: The Drive Home
When asked about his favourite parts of the job, Keagan surprised us with this part of his answer: “the drive home”. Working in such a scenic area makes it the perfect chance to decompress, reflect on the day’s accomplishments, and appreciate the balance between work and life.
This simple yet meaningful ritual highlights Keagan’s ability to find joy in every aspect of his routine. It’s the little things that make a big difference.
Outside of work, Keagan is just as passionate and multifaceted. His hobbies include camping, hockey, baseball, and golf—activities that reflect his love for the outdoors and his competitive spirit.
And then there’s cooking. Yes, Keagan is also a bit of a chef. It’s a different kind of hands-on activity that allows him to experiment and try new things. We’re sure Keagan’s enthusiasm for cooking mirrors his approach to his work: thoughtful, creative, and always striving for the best outcome.
The Value of Mentorship
One of the things that Keagan appreciates most about his role at G.M. Mechanical is the opportunity to learn from others. This culture of mentorship not only helps him grow as a tradesman but also fosters a sense of belonging. Keagan reflects the importance of having a supportive network at work.
It is motivating to know you’re surrounded by people who want to see you succeed. This collaborative environment is a cornerstone of G.M. Mechanical’s success and a big reason why Keagan thrives here.
